Abstract
This study examined empirically not only the structural effect relationships among developmental network characteristics, developmental functions, career identity, and career commitment, but also the differences between genders. The analysed data were provided by employees with more than two years of working experience and a degree of college graduation and higher, from domestic companies. For analysis, the structural equation model was applied. The analyzing results were as follows; first, tie strength impacted positively on every developmental function, but psycho-social support was a mediator between the tie strength and career identity and role modeling was a mediator between the tie strength and career commitment. Second, the indirect relationship between developers’ position and career commitment was found. Next, the study examined whether there are gender effects on the network characteristics and developmental functions. First, gender differences caused only about network size, but the network size did not affect developmental functions. Second, gender showed a discriminatory effect on psycho-social support and it eventually led to differences in career identity and career commitment.
