해외 한국학 제3세대를 바라보며: 박사학위논문을 중심으로(2007-2012)

2012년 해외 한국학 동향 연구의 일부로 행해진 본 연구는 2007년부터 2012년까지 미국에서 출판된 박사학위 논문, 총 31편을 분석했다. 분석 대상은 UCLA와 하버드 대학, 시카고 대학 등 미국의 5개 대학에서 재임 중인 10명의 2세대 한국학 학자들로부터 수여받은 논문들이 주를 이룬다. 이러한 분석을 통해 현재 연구 동향과 연구 기관별 연구 특징을 살펴보았고, 2000년대를 거치며 새롭게 등장하고 있는 해외 한국학 신진 연구자들은 연구 방법과 주제에 있어 기존의 학문적 세대와 구별되고, 그 시각과 접근에 있어서도 포스트모던적 논의를 대거 수용했다는 특징을 보이는 것으로 파악되었다.
Abstract
This study was conducted as a part of the AKS research project, Oversea Korean Studies Scholarship Review from 2007 to 2012, and focused on analysis of Ph.D. dissertations published in U.S(2007-2012). By examining the thirty one of dissertations, it found that young scholars in oversea Korean Studies program are deeply influenced by post-modern discussions and differ from previous generations in the research interests, methodologies, and perspectives. It examined thirty one doctoral dissertations awarded from 5 U.S. schools with Korean Studies program, Havard University, UCLA, Coloumia University, Stanford University, and University of Chicago.
