두 겹 문학사의 발생사에 관한 시론- 김윤식의 경성제국대학 논의 재독 -

Abstract

The 'history of literature' was considered to be anachronistic in holding on to the myth of sameness and had long since lost its effectiveness, leading to a prolonged period of 'literary history of post-history-of-literature' or 'literary history outside of literature.' Due to this environment, contemporary literary studies seem to have lost the center of discussion and suffered from the paralysis of 'post-history-of-literature.' However, what are we expressing and conveying with 'literary history' now? What do we collect and associate with 'literary history,' or do we trigger a process of comparison, contrast, and review? Some of Kim Yun-sik's work provides an excellent entry point for examining how literary historical thinking still organizes Korean literary studies and discourse. By noting and reconstructing moments in Lim Hwa’s account of literary history, Kim Yun-sik captures and signifies the conditions under which literary history came to exist as a science or discipline. Here, however, we have two literary histories that are brought together by the mediating role of Keijo Imperial University. One is that of Lim Hwa’s, and the other is that of Kim Yunsik’s. In Kim Yun-sik's formulation, which states that 'Lim Hwa was able to present the principle of unification and differentiation of the individual and the special as a methodology for narrating literary history through his own self-education with a sense of competition against the academism of imperial Japan through the encounting of Shin Nam-cheol, and with this methodology, he elevated literature to the boundaries of literary studies', Kim Yun-sik himself is subtly projected. In order for these two layers of literary history to come together, Korean literature had to represent and grasp the new actor of Keijo Imperial University. What must be emphasized here is that the renewal and expansion of literary historical knowledge beyond the self-fulfilling modern literary history was still driven by certain hybrids that were placed on the periphery or outside of modern literary history. This article only sketches a fragment of the phenomenon of literary history through the study of Kim Yun-sik's 'the history of ideas.'
