연구목적: 본 연구는 ‘전통’이 한국창작춤 담론 속에서 생성·재구성되는 의미를 고찰하여, 한국창작춤 확장 가능성을 연구하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 연구방법: 담론 연구방법인 비판적 담론 분석(Critical Discourse Analysis, CDA)을 적용하여, 2024년 무용전문매체에 게재된 한국창작춤 안무가 인터뷰 38건을 수집하였다. 의미 해석단계에서는 ‘규정’, ‘전통 인식’, ‘컨템포러리 용어’라는 연구문제를 도출하고, 사회적 맥락 분석을 통해 담론을 고찰하였다. 연구결과: 한국창작춤 담론은 장르 정체성의 필수조건으로 전제하고 있었으며, 이는 장르의 개념과 연관된다. 안무가들은 전통을 ‘움직임(사위)’과 ‘관념(원형)’으로 구분하여 인식했으며, 전자는 스승의 계보로, 후자는 문화재·문화원형 콘텐츠 사업 등 공적 제도와 관련이 있다. 또한 전통과 ‘컨템포러리’의 결합을 통해 장르 확장을 도모하였고, 이를 차별화된 창작의 기반으로 인식하였다. 결론: 한국춤 확장을 위해 개념 재정립, 전통의 비판적 성찰, 동시대적 재맥락화를 제안한다.
Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to explore how “tradition” generates and reconstructs meaning within the discourse of Korean Creative Dance, while examining its potential for expansion. Method: Adopting Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) as a discourse research method, the study collected and analyzed 38 interviews with Korean Creative Dance choreographers published in professional dance media in 2024. In the “interpretation of meaning” stage, the research themes of “regulation,” “perceptions of tradition,” and “use of contemporary terminology” were identified. Subsequently, the social context was analyzed to critically examine the discourse. Results: The discourse of Korean Creative Dance presupposes tradition as an essential condition of genre identity, closely linked to the conceptual framework of the genre. Choreographers perceived tradition in two ways: as “movement(sawi),” rooted in teacher lineage, and as “concept(archetype),” associated with public systems such as cultural heritage policies and cultural archetype content projects. Furthermore, the combination of tradition and “contemporary” was employed to expand the genre, positioning tradition as a distinctive creative foundation. Conclusion: To expand Korean dance, this study proposes redefining its concept, critically reflecting on tradition, and recontextualizing it in a contemporary way.
