연구목적: 본 연구의 목적은 한국춤 정체성의 개념과 구조를 탐색하는데 있다. 연구방법: 한국춤 정체성과 관련된 문헌자료(학위논문, 학회지논문, 단행본, 잡지)를 중심으로 귀납적 범주분석의 질적 분석 방법을 토대로 기술, 분석, 해석하였다. 이러한 과정을 통해 한국춤 정체성의 개념을 탐색하고, 그 구조에 대해서 구성 요소와 형성 요인의 두 가지 범주로 나누어 논의하였다. 연구결과: 한국춤 정체성이란, 오랜 기간 축적되어 온 한국춤의 정신문화, 미학, 형식, 창조성의 네 가지 차원의 특성이 총체적이고 유기적으로 연결되어 형성된 한국춤 본성 뿐 아니라, 개인과 집단에 의해 구축된 춤에 대한 정체성을 포괄하는 개념이다. 이 개념은 전통문화적 차원, 동시대적 차원, 그리고 행위주체적 차원의 세 가지로 구분된다. 전통문화적 차원의 한국춤 정체성은 역사·철학·미학적 기반 위에서 특징지어진 한국춤의 본질, 정신, 철학으로 나타나고, 동시대적 차원의 한국춤 정체성은 신무용과 창작춤을 통한 전통 재구성 및 변형을 통해 현대적 의미와 창의성을 구현함으로써 드러난다. 행위주체적 차원의 한국춤 정체성은 무용수, 안무가 등 행위자의 경험과 철학이 교차되어 만들어진 개인 또는 집단의 고유한 한국춤 문화이다. 한국춤 정체성의 구성요소는 정신문화, 미학, 형식, 창조성이고, 한국춤 정체성의 형성요인은 춤경험, 문화유전자, 대인관계, 사회제도이다. 결론: 이러한 결과는 한국춤 정체성이 ‘밀도성(density)’,‘완결성(completeness)’, 그리고 ‘총체성(wholeness)’의 관점에서 다층적으로 구현될 때 비로소 온전히 드러날 수 있음을 시사한다.
Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to explore the concept and structure of Korean dance identity. Methods: This study analyzed literature on Korean dance identity using inductive category analysis, exploring its concept and discussing its structure in terms of components and formative factors. Result: Korean dance identity encompasses both its intrinsic nature—defined by spiritual culture, aesthetics, form, and creativity—and the identity shaped by individuals and groups. It can be understood through three perspectives: traditional-cultural, which reflects the essence and philosophy of Korean dance; contemporary, which emphasizes creativity and modern relevance through reinterpretation of tradition; and agent-oriented, which highlights the unique dance culture formed by the experiences and philosophies of dancers and choreographers. The identity is shaped by components such as spiritual culture, aesthetics, form, and creativity, and is influenced by formative factors including dance experience, cultural heritage, interpersonal relationships, and social institutions. Conclusion: These findings imply that Korean dance identity can be fully manifested only when it is realized in a multi-layered manner from the perspectives of density, completeness, and wholeness.
