자본시장의 자유화와 IT 기술의 발달로 높은 성장세를 보이고 있는 서비스교역과 FDI의 관계에 대하여 분석하였다. FDI가 발생함에 따라서 투자국으로부터 투자 유치국으로의 서비스 수입이 유발된다. 중력모형을 통하여 이러한 유발효과의탄력도를 측정하였다. 또한 서비스 유발효과가 양국 간의 동일 언어의 사용, 동일대륙의 존재에 의하여 차이가 있는지를 분석하였다. 동일 언어를 사용하는 국가간에는 FDI에 의하여 유발되는 서비스 수입의 탄력도가 더 낮게 나타났다. 유사한문화적 배경과 낮은 물리적 운송비용을 갖고 있다고 보이는 동일 대륙의 여부는서비스 수입 자체를 활성화 시키는 요인이 되지만 FDI에 인하여 유발되는 서비스수입에는 유의한 영향을 미치지 못하는 것으로 나타났다.
Abstract
This paper analyzes the effects of FDI on service trade among OECD countries. FDI induce the host countries to increase service imports more from the investor nations. This paper utilizes a gravity model to estimate various elasticities. We also examine how the common continent and language generate the effects of FDI on service trade. We find the lower elasticity of service trade with respect to FDI among the countries which use the common language. On the other hand, the countries within the same continent tend to import service more. However, we find no significant effect from service imports induced by FDI within the same continent.
