한국 FTA의 수출집약도 및 수출다양도에 대한 영향

초록

본 연구는 FTA의 효과를 수출집약도에 대한 효과와 수출다양도에 대한 효과로 구분하여 분석하는 새로운 접근 방법을 한국 사례에 적용하여 한국 FTA의 효과를 세부적으로 분석하였다. 이를 위하여 지난 10년간 2900여개의 제조업품목을 대상으로 98개 교역상대국에 대한 수출집약도와 수출다양도 수준을 계산하였으며 이를 바탕으로 패널데이타를 구성하여 실증분석을 실시하였다. 또한 각 FTA별로 FTA 체결 전/후의 수출집약도와 수출다양도를 파악하는 사례분석을 실시하여 분석의 정확성을 제고하였다. 실증분석 결과 한국이 체결한 FTA로 한국의 수출집약도가 증가한 반면 수출다양도는 수출품목 개수가 늘어나 일면 다양해지긴 하였으나 늘어난 상품들이 수입시장에서 비중이 적은 상품들로 구성되었다. 개별 FTA 분석 결과, 한-칠레 FTA와 한-ASEAN FTA는 수출집약도와 수출다양도를 모두 확대시켰으나 한-EFTA FTA와 한-싱가포르 FTA는 수출집약도만 확대시키는 효과를 가졌다. 항목별로는 차량/운송기기 항목에 대하여 FTA의 수출집약도 및 수출다양도 확대 효과가 가장 두드러지게 나타났다.

Abstract

This paper estimated the impact of Korea ’s FTAs on its total exports growth and export market share expansion, specifically focusing on their changes in the intensive and extensive export margins. The analysis was based on the panel data of Korea’s export to 98 partner countries over the last 10 years(2000~2009). The intensive export margin was calculated in terms of per product export value and Hummels and Klenow(2005)intensive margin while the extensive export margins was calculated in terms of number of products and Hummels and Klenow(2005)extensive margin. The OLS estimator with period fixed effect was applied to estimate the FTA effects on Korea’s intensive and extensive export margins. The statistically significant findings of this paper include that Korea’s FTAs increased its total export and export market shares both in terms of intensive and extensive margins in general. However, the intensive export growth played more important role whereas the extensive export growth was confirmed only in terms of product number. Korea-Chile FTA and Korea-ASEAN FTA increased both intensive and extensive margins whereas Korea-EFTA FTA and Korea-Singapore FTA expanded only the intensive export margins.
