日帝强占期 沈衡鎭의 『朝鮮歷史千字文』硏究

Abstract

This article analyzed Thousand Character Text of Joseon History(朝鮮歷史千字文, henceforth 『the Text』) by Shim Hyung-Jin(沈衡鎭). Shim Hyung-Jin, fluent in Japanese and expert in Confucism, was one of the pro-Japanese Confucian scholars who voluntarily collaborated with the Japanese imperialism in the Japanese Colonial Rule period. In Daehan Jeguk period, Shim was selected as one of the apprentices of Takjibu, and began his official career as jusa of the Takjibu. After Japan occupied Daehan Jeguk(大韓帝國), he devoted himself to his own official career under the rule of Japanese imperialism. In 1921, Shim wrote an article emphasizing the ‘Fusion of entities between the Joseon and Japan proper(內鮮一體)’ to the Joseon(朝鮮), and continued to publish Chinese poetries that praised the Japanese invasions and the high officials in the Japanese Occupational government, thus ingratiating the favor of Japanese imperialism, till the end of the Occupational government. Shim published the 『the Text(朝鮮歷史千字文)』 at Gwangju in 1928. The contents of 『the Text(朝鮮歷史千字文)』 described various historical events from Dangun Joseon(檀君朝鮮) to Daehan Jeguk(大韓帝國), using 1000 Chinese characters without elapsing each of them. In this acticle, writer put annotations for historical backgrounds and circumstances etc., to which the readers can't understand meanings from the texts themselves. 『the Text(朝鮮歷史千字文)』 was based on various history books, such as Dongsa yeonpyo(東史年表), Samguk sagi(三國史記), and Samguk yusa(三國遺事), etc. The contents were, therefore, relatively various and comprehensive, but rarely revealing Shim's personal interpretations. In 『the Text(朝鮮歷史千字文)』, Shim admitted the existence of Dangun and Gojoseon(古朝鮮). He also regarded the Gija Joseon(箕子朝鮮]) as historical facts, which coincided in understandings of the Confucian community in Joseon period. He criticized the disadvantages of the Buddhism worship and unethical royal marriages in the Goryo Dynasty, and factional strife in the Joseon Dinasty. Most problematic contents were, however, the sentences hoping the people of Joseon prevail under the protection of Japan, in the last part of 『the Text(朝鮮歷史千字文)』. This was another expression of ‘Fusion of entities between the Joseon and Japan proper(內鮮融和)’, which Shim stressed. In fact, without knowing Shim's pro-Japanese contributions and Um Soo-dong's fine eyes, would not have been analyzed properly.
