Abstract
This study aimed to compare and analyze physical fitness, isokinetic muscle function, and anaerobic power between Taekwondo Kyorugi (sparring) and Poomsae athletes, in order to identify group-specific characteristics and provide scientific baseline data for tailored training program development. Twenty-two male university athletes from region C participated, consisting of 11 Kyorugi and 11 Poomsae athletes. Assessments included physical fitness (muscular strength, muscular endurance, power, agility, whole-body reaction time, and flexibility), isokinetic muscle function of the knee joint at 60˚/sec, and anaerobic power (peak power, average power, and power drop). Data were analyzed using SPSS 23.0, with means and standard deviations calculated, and independent samples t-tests employed to assess group differences. Results indicated that the Kyorugi group demonstrated significantly higher values in back strength, whole-body reaction time (light), right and left extensor strength, right flexor strength, and flexor–extensor ratios compared with the Poomsae group. Furthermore, the Kyorugi athletes exhibited significantly greater peak power, relative peak power, average power, relative average power, and power drop in anaerobic performance. These findings confirm distinct differences between Kyorugi and Poomsae athletes in physical fitness, isokinetic muscle function, and anaerobic power. The results provide foundational evidence for the development of sport-specific, scientifically grounded training programs, which may contribute to enhanced athletic performance through discipline-tailored training strategies.
