중화이론에서 논의되는 합리화의 기술 중 하나인 비난자에 대한 비난은 개인의 행위를 비난할 것으로 예상되는 관습적 인물과 제도의 도덕적 타락을 개인이 지적함으로써 외부의 통제로부터 자유를 획득하는 과정을 묘사한다. 관습적 인물과 제도의 대표적인 예시는 경찰인바 중화이론에서는 경찰의 공정성과 정당성을 요구한다. 이에 이 연구에서는 절차적 정의 모형과 중화이론의 일부 명제는 병렬적으로 통합하여 경찰공정성이 경찰정당성을 매개하여 중화에 도달하는 모형을 설계 및 검증하였다. 구조방정식모형을 실시한 결과 경찰공정성은 경찰정당성의 하위차원인 경찰신뢰와 경찰복종을 유발하는 것으로 나타났다. 다만 경찰공정성은 중화에 직접적으로 영향을 미치지는 않았다. 마찬가지로 경찰복종과 중화의 관계도 무관하였다. 경찰신뢰는 중화를 억제하는 것으로 분석되어 Sobel 검정을 실시한 결과 경찰신뢰의 완전매개효과가 확인되었다.
Abstract
One of the techniques of rationalization discussed in neutralization theory, the condemnation of the condemners, describes the process of gaining freedom from external control by pointing out the moral degradation of conventional figures and institutions that are expected to condemn individual behavior. A typical example of conventional characters and systems is police, and neutralization theory requires fairness and legitimacy of police. Therefore, in this study, the procedural justice model and some propositions of neutralization theory were integrated in parallel to design and verify a model in which police fairness reaches neutralization through police legitimacy. As a result of conducting a structural equation model, it was found that police fairness induces police trust and police obedience, which are sub-dimensions of police legitimacy. However, police fairness did not directly affect neutralization. Likewise, the relationship between police obedience and neutralization was irrelevant. Police trust was analyzed to suppress neutralization, and the Sobel test confirmed the full mediating effect of police trust.
