수운(水雲)의 ‘신(信)’ 관념과 민족의식

수운의 동학창도는 성리학이 본연의 정체성을 상실하여 사회가 날로 혼란에 빠지고 백성의 삶은 도탄에 빠지게 되자 원효나, 퇴계나, 율곡이 현실의 극복을 위하여 사상적 변화를 모색했었던 연장선에서 이루어졌다. 곧 사화와 권력쟁탈로 인한 윤리도덕의 타락과 그것으로 인한 국가기강의 해이, 민생의 피폐를 구제하기 위한 근거로 성리학적인 세계관에 바탕한 ‘성경심학(誠敬心學)’을 제시하고 이를 문학으로 형상화하여 사회가 변화하기를 모색한 것이었다. 이러한 사실은 수운의 동경대전과 용담유사의 문학 작품을 통해 언급하고 있는 ‘성경(誠敬)’과 신(信)관념을 통해서 분명히 알 수 있었다. 수운의 ‘성경’과 ‘신’관념은 수운사상에 있어서 후천개벽, 천심즉인심(天心卽人心),시천주(侍天主) 등의 사상은 ‘성경’과 ‘신’이라는 개념으로서 모두 설명될 수 있었다. 특히 ‘신’관념은 군자가 학문을 통해서 자신의 덕을 향상시키는 근거로서 출발점이 되는 것이었다. 그러므로 수운의 사상을 가늠할 수 있는 중요한 잣대를 말한다면 그 중심 개념이 바로 ‘신’이며, 이 ‘신’관념에서 수운의 민족의식은 배태되어 나온 것이었다.
Abstract
The advance of "Dong-hag" to Su-won was accomplished on the extension that Won-hyo, Twe-gae, and Wol-gok had sought the change of thought to overcome reality. The reality is that Sung Confucianism lost its natural identity, and the society plunged in confusion, and the lives of people fell into extreme distress. That is, due to a massacre of scholars and a struggle of power, morals went wrong and the public order became loose and public welfare became impoverished. To save them, Su-woon presented "Seonggyongsimhag" which was based on the Sung Confucianism world view, and formed it as literature, and sought the social chanage. These facts could be certainly understood through the concept of "Seong-gyeong" and belief which was mentioned in the literary works of Su-woon's "Donggyeongdaejeon" and "Yongdamyoosa". Su-woon's the concept "Seonggyeong" and belief could be explained as the same "Yoonhwasiwon", "Whocheongaebyeog", "Cheonsimjeuginsim", and "Sichoenju" in Su-woon. Especially, the concept of belief was the start that wise men improved their own morality through studies. Therefore, the most important standard of Su-woon's thought is the just concept of "belief", and national consciousness of Su-woon came from this concept of "belief."
