Abstract

Kwon Seop is famous for his Korean classical poetry and has attracted scholars' attention for a long time. Recently Oksogo, the collection of Kwon Seop's works was published. Now it is necessary to research his works written in Chinese. I payed attention of his travel notes and poetry above all because he was absorbed in traveling through his life and wrote so many remarkable travel notes and poetry. Kwon Seop's travel notes and poetry are very discriminative from those of other writers, living in Seoul. He had a friendly relation with Kim Changhyup and Kim Changhup brothers and was been influenced by them in the field of literature. However his works show a unique style of writing. His travel notes are composed of literary writing and practical writing. The most important work 'Jadeokrok' of 『Haesanrok』shows a unique style of writing which is different from the style of diary travel notes and short sketches of beautiful mountains and rivers. He itemized his diverse experience and observation of travel and described them freely. His travel poetry also are distinctive. He mostly used four line stanza of Chinese poetry in order to describe the beauty spots on his journey. He mostly used free verse of Chinese poetry in order to narrate the process of long traveling and to express the pleasure of traveling. The former focuses on the nature's beauty of distinctive scenery while the latter focuses on his feeling and experience during the long travel. These works are very discriminative from those of Kim Changhup's literary group which usually use a eight line stanza of Chinese poetry in order to describe the beauty spots very concretely and express his sentiment lyrically.
