이 논문은 玉所 權燮의 題畵詩를 고찰하는데 목적을 두고 있다. 권섭은 문학뿐만 아니라 그림, 음악 등 다방면에 걸쳐 학문적 관심의 폭을 넓혔던 인물이다. 그는 『玉所稿』에 약 5천 여 편의 방대한 분량의 한시를 남겼고, 이 중에서 제화시는 61題 101首에 이른다. 먼저, 권섭이 남긴 제화시를 살펴보기에 앞서 그가 회화 애호 취미를 갖게 된 배경을 살펴본 결과, 김창협 형제의 영향, 정선, 조세걸 등 당대의 유명한 예술인들과의 교유, 백부 권상하와 아우 권형의 그림 애호 취미와 관련이 있는 것으로 보인다. 권섭의 제화시를 畵材별로 분류하였을 때 山水畵에 쓴 시와 詠物畵에 쓴 시로 나눌 수 있는데 이 가운데 몇 작품을 제외하면 거개가 산수화에 쓴 시이다. 권섭의 제화시에 표출된 산수는 동경과 그리움의 대상이 되고 즐거움의 동인이 되었으며, 노년에 ‘臥遊’의 대상이 되었음을 알 수 있었다. 또한 탈속적이며 이상적인 공간으로 인식되기도 하였다. 권섭의 제화시에는 부채, 고양이, 말, 매화, 나무 등의 영물화에 쓴 시가 있는데, 일반적인 영물시와 같이 세태를 풍자하거나 작자의 인생관을 드러내 보이기도 하였다. 또한 시적 대상이 된 그림을 그린 화가의 솜씨를 격찬하는 것을 주제로 삼기도 하였다. 권섭의 제화시를 형상화 면에서 살펴본 결과, 대상에 대한 간결한 묘사와 시적 화자의 감정이 투영되어 있다는 점에서 寫意를 지향하고 있음을 알 수 있다. 시인은 눈에 들어오는 풍경을 있는 그대로 그려내는데 치중하지 않고 그림을 통해 일어나는 느낌을 서술하거나 의미를 해석하는 태도를 보여주고 있다. 그래서 권섭의 제화시는 주관적 감정의 노출이 많다. 이것은 성률의 법도를 염두에 두지 않고 마음속에 감응하여 일어나는 흥에 따라서 쏟아내는, 이른바 ‘隨興湧寫’의 시작태도와도 관련이 있다고 할 수 있다.
Abstract
This study aims to consider Okso(玉所), Kwon Seop(權燮)'s pictorial poetry. Kwon Seop took multi-faceted scholarly interest in painting, music, etc. as well as literature. He left around five thousand Chinese poems in 『Oksogo(玉所稿)』, among which pictorial poetry was written on 61 titles and 101 poems. Looking into the background of Kwon Seob's interest in painting before examining his pictorial poetry, it was concerned with Kim Chang-hyeob(金昌協) and his brother's influence, the companionship with such celebrated artists of the age as Jeongseon(鄭敾), Jo Se-geol(曺世傑), etc., and the taste in painting of Uncle Kwon Sang-ha(權尙夏) and Brother Kwon Hyeong(權瑩) Kwon Seob's pictorial poetry are classified into two types of poems by subject matter for a painting, the one is on the paintings of landscape and the other is of spiritual and mysterious things, and almost all the poems were written on the paintings of landscape. The landscape expressed in Kwon Seob's pictorial poetry was an object for yearning and longing, a motive for joy and an object to appreciate in his old age. It was also recognized to be unworldly and weird space. Among his poems, the poems on the paintings of spiritual and mysterious things such as folding fans, cats, horses, Japanese apricot trees, trees, etc. satirized the way of the world or displayed his view of life. The poems also praised the painters' skills highly. Considering Kwon Seob's pictorial poetry in terms of embodiment, the poems described the objects concisely and reflected feelings of poetic speaker, which shows he tended to focus on meaning and feelings coming from the paintings. He did not concentrate on realizing landscapes as it was but intended to depict the feelings or interpret the meaning from the painting. Resulting from this, Kwon Seob's poems tended to show his personal feelings. This is concerned with the so-called Sooheung-yong-sa(隨興湧寫), which is a verse-making attitude of giving vent to the pleasure responding to the mind regardless of the rhythmic rules.
