저소손의 〈골계열전〉 다시읽기

본고는 사마천 《사기(史記)》 〈골계열전(滑稽列傳)〉에 저소손(褚少孫)이 보충하여 저술한 부분을 다시 읽고 분석함을 목적으로 하였다. 사마천의 〈골계열전〉에서 골계의 주체가 텍스트 내부 등장인물이었다면, 저소손의 〈골계열전〉에서는 저소손 자신이 직접 골계하는 주체로서 등장인물을 골계의 소재로 삼아 골계 ‘쓰기’를 수행했다. 그는 이러한 글쓰기를 통해 텍스트에 내재한 저자의 문제의식을 독자가 스스로 발견하도록 유도하였다. 저소손의 문제의식은 인재 등용의 모순과 교화 정치의 부재로 요약되며, 이는 그가 직면한 당대의 현실과 관련이 있다. 저소손의 〈골계열전〉은 골계 쓰기의 결과물로서 사마천이 정의한 골계 행위를 말하기에서 글쓰기로 확장하였다는 데 의의가 있다.
Abstract
This study aims to re-reading and analyze the supplementary sections added by Chu Shaosun to Sima Qian’s Shiji, particularly to the “Biography of the Wits and Humorists”. In Sima Qian’s version, the subject of wit resides within the text as the characters themselves, whereas in Chu Shaosun’s version, Chu becomes the agent of wit, transforming the characters into the very material of his “writing of wit.” Through this literary act, Chu leads the reader to uncover the author’s critical consciousness embedded within the text. Chu’s intellectual concern centers on the contradictions of talent appointment and the absence of Confucian moral governance, both reflecting the socio-political realities of his time. Thus, Chu Shaosun’s “Biography of the Wits and Humorists” stands as the product of writing wit—a work that extends Sima Qian’s notion of witty discourse from the act of speaking to the act of writing.
