본 연구는 외국인의 국내기업 소유결정요인으로 수직적 산업연관성의 역할에 대하여 실증분석을 실시한다. 2007년도 기업활동조사자료를 이용한 분석결과는 국내기업 소유 자회사에 비해서 외국인 소유 자회사는 모기업이 속한 산업에 중간재를 공급하는 수직 연관된 산업에 속할 확률이 높은 것으로 나타났다. 특히, 외국인 모회사와 한국과의 거리가 멀어질수록 수직적 산업연관성이더욱 높은 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 외국인 기업은 국내기업에 비해 상대적으로 높은 국내시장에 대한 적응비용을 줄이기 위해 수직적 결합을 선택했을 가능성을 보여준다.
Abstract
The paper examines the role of vertical linkage in determining foreign ownership. Using the 2007 Survey of Business Stature and Activity, our empirical analysis shows that foreign-owned firms are more likely to supply intermediate inputs to the industry of their parent firms than domesticallyowned firm. Vertical linkage becomes stronger as the geographic distance between foreign-owned firms and their parent firms increases. The result suggests that foreign parent firms might choose vertical integration to reduce adjustment costs in accessing the Korean market.
