한국 기업의 기업내무역 구조와 결정요인: 제조업 현지법인을 중심으로

초록

세계경제의 글로벌화가 진전되면서 해외직접투자가 빠르게 증가하고 있다. 해외직접투자의 증가는 현지법인 수의 증가로 이어지면서 모기업과 현지법인 간의 무역, 즉 기업내무역도 증가하는 추세이다. 1990년대 이후 한국 기업의 해외직접투자도 점차 증가하면서 한국 내 모기업과 해외 현지법인 간의 기업내무역이 빠르게 증가하고 있다. 본 논문은 한국수출입은행의 설문조사 데이터를 이용하여 한국 기업의 해외 현지법인과 한국 내 모기업 간의 기업내무역의 결정요인을 분석한다. 실증분석결과, 모기업의 현지법인에 대한 지분율이 높을수록, 모기업의 R&D비중이 높을수록 기업내무역 비중이 높아지는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 투자기간이 경과할수록 현지법인의 현지화가 진전되어 모기업과의 연계가 약화되면서 기업내무역 비중이 감소하는 것으로 나타났다. 한편 인수합병 내지 신규투자 등의 현지 진출방식은 기업내무역 비중에 통계적으로 유의한 영향을 미치지는 않는 것으로 나타났다.

Abstract

Outward foreign direct investment(FDI) by Korean firms has been conspi- cuously increasing since the later 1990s. With increased FDI stocks, the intra-firm trade, which refers to trade between parent firms and their affiliates, has also increased. Utilizing the survey data produced by the Korea Exim Bank, this paper examines the current status of intra-firm trade by manufacturing affiliates of Korean firms. The paper also analyzes empirically the determinants of the extent of intra-firm trade by the manufacturing affiliates of Korean firms. The higher the parent firms' shares of their affiliates, it turns out, the higher the extent of intra-firm trade. The longer the presence of the affiliates in the host country, the lower the extent of intra-firm trade, reflecting the effect of localization. The mode of entry into local market, such as M&A or via greenfield investment, does not affect the extent of intra-firm trade.
