Abstract
This study investigated the effects of renewable energy production on economic growth and CO2 emissions for OECD countries. This study used the panel data for OECD countries from 2000 to 2019. In order to analyze the nexus of renewable energy production on economic growth and CO2 emissions, this study adopted the OLS(ordinary least squares) and fixed effects for economic growth and CO2 emission models. The main findings are as follows. First, the increase of capital and renewable energy production have contributed to the economic growth, and renewable energy production and economic growth have the U-shaped relationship. Second, the increase of renewable energy production and related patents affect the decrease of CO2 emissions for G7 countries, and renewable energy production and CO2 emissions have the inverted U-shaped relationship. Korea is a country with a relatively low proportion of renewable energy production among OECD countries, and therefore we need to raise the proportion of renewable energy production for preparing the ‘net zero’.
