미국 텍사스 주와 캘리포니아 주의 사회과 교육과정에 나타난 경제 교육 내용의 범위와 계열성 분석

본 연구는 사회과교육의 통합 유형이 경제 교육 내용의 범위와 계열성에 미치는 영향을 분석하기 위한 것이다. 이를 위해 미국 텍사스 주와 캘리포니아 주에 나타난 사회과교육 통합 유형의 검토를 통해 미국경제교육협회가 제시한 경제교육의 20개 자발적 내용표준이 주 교육과정에 얼마나 반영되어 있는지를 학년별 계열성(sequence)을 중심으로 비교하였다. 다학문적 통합 형태를 띠는 텍사스 주의 경우 주요 경제 개념이 일부 빠져있었으나 학년별 계열성이 유지되어 있는 반면 역사 중심의 간학문적 통합 형태를 띠는 캘리포니아 주의 경우 기본 경제 개념이 거의 반영되어 있으나 계열성이 깨져있음을 볼 수 있었다.
Abstract
This study analyzes the effects of integration in social studies on the scopes and sequences of economic education curriculum focusing on the types of integration in social studies in the Texas and California States. We compare the sequences of economic education with the voluntary national content standard in economics presented by Council for Economic Education. Texas State shows the multidisciplinary approach in social studies, in which some economic concepts are omitted but the sequences of economic education curriculum are fairly kept. On the contrary, California State shows the interdisciplinary approach, in which most economic concepts are fairly kept but the sequences of economic education are broken.
