Abstract
Today new kinds of cognitive sciences combine AI with molecular biology, nano-technology, genetic manipulation, which will have enhanced human mental and physical capacities. These rapid technological developments promises that human beings will live longer, healthier, and happier because technologies are believed in removing biological imperfections and the social problems. Technologies are not only shaping the external environment to improve the conditions of human life, but they seek to overcome biological limitations. For the next decades we will have witnessed the rethinking and debating of the meaning of being human, driven by acceleration of scientific advances and technological innovations of AI. The convergence of biology and technology with Al will challenge and require a new theorizing of the meaning of being human such as human body, mind, even soul. This article highlights the religious dimension of AI and argues that it should be considered as a secularist faith that secularizes traditional religious themes, concerns and goals such as eternal life, salvation, eschatology. Moreover, it will be meaningful for AI to be viewed as a religion because it provides a context for the consideration of meaning, value, and purpose. If and when Singularity would occur, the AI religion will displace traditional religions and will become to teach how to live. The AI futurist speculations, especially on technological Singularity, predict that traditional Christian apocalyptic themes such as the utopian speculations about the ideal good life and the immortality in which all needs will be fulfilled. This article on AI in Singularity enables us to appreciate the power of AI as secularized religiosity, inviting us to engage AI on intellectual, ethical and social and cultural philosophical grounds. Thus, the article has engaged Christian thinking of Kenosis in an attempt to articulate a Christian obligation to the challenges of Al without dismissing the relevance of the Christian message. The secular age of Al in the future would be defined as one in which the eclipse of all ethical goals beyond human flourishing becomes conceivable. In conclusion, the hegemony of Al's religious secularization should be challenged, and a new age of religious searching in Christianity such as Kenosis, self-emptiness or self-sacrificing is to be suggested as the ethical guidance in the development of Al. If we could understand the complexity of the current and future of AI’ danger and possibility in terms of ethical guidance of necessity we will do well guide AI development.
