본 연구의 목적은 기독교 신학적 관점에서 인공지능과 상호작용하는 인간에게 인격교육이 필요한 이유를 탐구하는 것이다. 이에 대한 응답을 위하여, 본 논문은 문헌 연구를 동원하여 ‘더 나은 인간’으로 변화하기 위한 전통적 기독교의 초월 열망과 기술과의 상관관계를 탐구한다. 또한, 인간과 인공지능의 교육적 상호작용을 통해 성숙한 인격 형성을 도모해야할 필요성과 인간을 위한 인공지능 개발의 과제가 더 나은 인간됨을 위한 현재의 인격교육에서 시작되어야 함을 기독교 신학의 관점에서 성찰하려 한다. 초월에 대한 서구 기독교의 비전은 중세로부터 인간이 뛰어난 공예기술을 통해 신적 지식을 획득하고 피조물의 한계를 초월하여 신의 형상에 참여하려는 시도로 이끌었다. 현대 세속 사회에서 인간은 현대 기술의 총아인 인공지능을 발전시켜 인간의 형상을 닮은 지적 존재로 창조하고 궁극적으로 신의 형상에까지 발전시키려 하였다. 인공지능의 도움으로 인간은 육체적 한계를 초월하여 사이버 공간에서 영생하는 비전을 갈망하게 되었다. 하지만, 정작 인공지능이 발전 모델로 삼는 인간의 인격과 인간이 상호작용하는 사회는 오늘날 비인격적이고 분열적인 모습을 나타내고 있다. 인간의 형상을 따라 창조된 인공지능이 인간의 잃어버린 완벽함(타락 이전의 완전한 인간, 혹은, 신의 형상)을 향하여 발전해갈 때, 불완전한 인간이 인공지능을 통해 인격적인 인간으로 성장하고 언젠가 초월적 존재로 나아가기 원한다면, 이를 성취하려는 인간은 보다 인격적인 인간이 되기 위해 현재에 최선을 다해야 할 것이다. 단순한 수준의 아동 인공지능은 인간이 생성하는 현재의 자료들을 학습하여 복잡하고 높은 수준의 성인 인공지능으로 발전해갈 것이며, 미래의 인격교육은 더욱 인간을 닮은 인공지능과 인간 학습자의 상호작용에 점점 더 의존하게 될 것이다. 결국, 현재 우리의 인격과 우리가 생성하는 모든 자료가 미래에 교육과정을 통해 인간과 상호작용할 인공지능의 특성을 결정하는 학습데이터가 되고 미래 인류의 운명을 결정할 것이다. 이에, 인공지능과 상호작용하며 초월을 향해 진보하는 인간을 위한 오늘의 인격교육이 더욱 절실하다.
Abstract
This paper asks why character education is necessary for humans who interact with artificial intelligence from a Christian theological perspective. To respond to this question, this essay introduces the correlation between the traditional Christian aspiration of transcendence and technology to transform into a ‘better human.’ Then, I reflect upon the need to promote mature character formation through the educational interaction between humans and AI and that the task of AI development for humans should begin with the current character education for better humans. The Western Christianity’s vision of transcendence led from the Middle Ages to an attempt by humans to acquire divine knowledge through excellent craft skills and participate in the image of God by transcending the limitations of creature. Since then, humans have developed AI, the darling of modern technology, to create an intellectual being that resembles the image of humans, and ultimately to the image of God. With the help of AI, humans have come to yearn for a vision that transcends their physical limits and lives on in cyberspace. However, today, the society in which humans interact and human character which AI uses as a development model, are getting more impersonal and divisive. If an imperfect human wants to grow into a mature person through AI and one day move toward a transcendent being, the human being who seeks to achieve this will have to do its best to become a more mature person in the present. Child AI at a simple level will develop into complex and high-level adult AI by learning the current data generated by humans, and future chracter education will become increasingly dependent on the interaction between human-like AI and human learners. In the end, our current character and all the data we generate will become learning data that determines the characteristics of AI that will interact with humans through education, and will determine the fate of humanity in the future. Therefore, today’s character education for humans, who interact with AI and progress toward transcendence, is even more necessary.
