인터넷이 매개된 초연결사회에서 지식은 기술-경제의 세계화의 먹이로 전락하고 있다. 지식의 유용성, 효용성만이 강조되다보니 이런 ‘야만의 시대’를 맞게 된 것이다. 야만의 시대의 지식은 공유·향유되기보다는 철저히 사유화되고 자본화된다. 현대 사회 전반에 이미 팽배해 있는 기술과 경제 환원주의적 사고는 AI, Big Data, IoT 등의 디지털신기술과 결합하면서 세계화를 가속화시키고 있으며 일종의 기술전체주의적 획일화를 성장과 기회의 수사로 포장하고 있다. 최근 국내의 학계 안팎에서 열기가 뜨거운 ‘4차 산업혁명’은 이러한 기술전체주의의 정점에 서 있다고 해도 과언이 아니다. 오직-번영-성장-발전만을 좇는 비인도적 슈퍼자본주의를 인류의 미래상이라도 되는 양 온 지구촌이 들썩이고 있다는 것 자체가 아이러니라 할 수 있다. 다양한 문화와 다양한 가치가 공존하는 사회를 꿈꾸는 사람들에게 4차 산업혁명은 획일적 가치의 확산 이상의 의미는 없다. 과학기술이건 경제성장이건 인간의 행복과 자유, 창의와 정의, 복지와 공유의 문제를 간과하고 있다면, 당연 우리는 그 가치를 의심에 붙여야 한다. 4차 산업혁명이라는 달콤한 유혹으로부터 벗어나 우리 스스로를 보호하고, 동료·이웃과 상호부조하며, 지구촌을 구제하는 4차 공유혁명이 필요한 까닭이 여기에 있다.
Abstract
In the super-connected society mediated by the Internet, knowledge is falling prey to the globalization of techno-economy. As the utility and effectiveness of knowledge has been emphasized, the age of barbarism has come. Knowledge in the age of barbarism is thoroughly privatized and capitalized rather than shared and enjoyed. Technology and economic reductionism, which are already prevalent throughout contemporary society, are accelerating globalization by combining with new digital technologies such as AI, Big Data, and IoT. They are packing the technological totalitarian uniformity as a rhetoric of growth and opportunity. It is no exaggeration to say that the Fourth Industrial Revolution, which has been a hot topic in domestic academic circles in recent years, is at the peak of this totalitarianism of technology. It is ironic that the inhospitable super-capitalism, which only pursues prosperity-growth-development, is inhabited by the world-wide, which is the future of mankind. However, for those who dream of a society in which various culture and various values coexist, the Fourth Industrial Revolution has no meaning beyond the spread of uniform value. If science and technology, or economics, overlook human happiness and freedom, creativity and justice, welfare and sharing, we must rightly doubt its value. This is why we need the Fourth Shared Revolution, to protect ourselves from the sweet temptation of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, to assist mutually with peers and neighbors, and to save our planet.
