초록
2022 was a year of heightened fears of nuclear war, including North Korea’s repeated (nuclear) missile tests, the war between Ukraine and Russia, and concerns over the use of nuclear weapons. In this situation, author Hye-ryeong Jang paid attention to Hiroshima, where the atomic bomb was dropped in 1945, and wrote Your Hiroshima (2022). The novel consists of a letter to Tamiki Hara, an atomic bomb victim in Hiroshima. Upon encountering Tamiki Hara’s atomic bomb literature, the author transformed a woman who appeared briefly in Lips of Fire into Jung-soon, kim, the main character of his novel. At the same time, 70 years after Tamiki Hara’s suicide in 1951, a narrative was established that Jung-soon, kim visited Hiroshima on August 6, the day of the bombing in 2021. Because of this setting, this work visualized the process of Jung-soon, kim going further from Tamiki Hara, Japanese atomic bomb victims in Hiroshima, and finding out the existence of Korean atomic bomb victims in Japan. In the meantime, the socialization effect of the atomic bomb occurred, in which information related to the atomic bomb was presented to the reader. Against this background, “You” in Your Hiroshima includes a Korean reader reading the novel. In this novel, information on atomic bombs provided readers calls for the attention of many Korean readers who have turned a blind eye to the victims and request personal and social movements for the victims. For this reason, the author planned the novel in the form of a letter. The letter to Tamiki Hara, where Jung-soon, kim died, was originally the unsendable letter, but this letter became a letter-type novel, allowing the author’s intention to spread to more people when the destination became a reader.
