이 글은 한국학중앙연구원의 최진덕, 김형효 교수의 철학을 비판적으로 거론한다. ①최진덕 교수의 철학이 지니는 호고주의(好古主義)적 경향성은 현재에 대한 고려를 빠뜨리고 있다. 미래의 문제뿐 아니라 현재의 문제도 과거 지향적 물음으로 해결되지 않는다. 불교와 주자학의 공부론을 바탕으로 재구성한 최진덕 교수의 닦음론이 ‘우리 현실’과‘우리 시대’의 문제를 어떻게 해결할 수 있는지 역시 분명하지 않다. 나의 몸과 마음을닦음으로써 ‘우리 현실’과 ‘우리 시대’를 닦을 수 있다는 듯한 최진덕 교수의 발상은 사회와 시대의 문제를 개인의 문제로 환원해 이해하려는 방법론적 개체주의의 한계에 묶여 있다. ②김형효 교수는 구조주의적 관점에서 철학적 사유의 유형을 물학(物學), 심학(心學), 실학(實學)으로 분류하고 있는데, 거기서 우리는 모종의 위계 설정을 감지한다. 해체주의는 바로 저러한 칸막이와 위계를 해체하고자 하는 철학적 운동을 일컫는데, 해체주의를옹호하는 김형효 교수는 여기서 자가당착을 범하고 있는 것처럼 보인다. 아울러 저러한분류법에 의거해 장자의 철학을 물학에 위치시킨 김형효 교수의 장자 해석은 장자의 철학에서 초월의 측면만을 인정하거나 강조함으로써 장자를 그가 비판했던 관념적 관조에 머문 피안의 철학자로 오해할 소지가 있다.
Abstract
I examine the philosophies of Choi Jin-Duk and Kim Hyunghyo of the Academy of Korean Studies critically. ①Choi Jin-Duk omits the consideration of the present in favor of the old. Not only the present problems but also the future ones are not solved with this attitude. It is also not clear whether and how we can solve the problems of our situation and our time by Choi’s theory of cultivating, which is the reconstruction of the Buddhist and Chu Hsi’s theories of learning. Choi’s idea that we can do them by cultivating our body and mind is bound by the limit of methodological individualism, which reduces the problems of society and epoch to those of individuals. ②Kim Hyunghyo divides the philosophical thoughts into Mulhak, Simhak, and Silhak from structuralist point of view. We notice the establishment of some hierarchy there. As a deconstructionist, he is contradicting himself since deconstructionism means the philosophical movement of deconstructing such departmentalization and hierarchy. Situating the philosophy of Chuang-tzu in Mulhak and emphasizing its transcendental aspect alone as Kim does is also misleading since Chuang-tzu can be misunderstood as a philosopher of transcendence in favor of idealistic contemplation contrary to his own disclaimer of it.
