Abstract
The purpose of this study is to explore the components of cultural enjoyment competencies required in response to changes in the cultural enjoyment environment in the AI era and to suggest directions and tasks for elementary music education. To this end, the study analyzed the effects of the proliferation of digital platforms and generative AI on cultural enjoyment practices and musical experiences through a literature review, and identified the concept and key components of cultural enjoyment competencies. The findings indicate that cultural enjoyment in the AI era is expanding beyond appreciation and consumption to a participatory cultural experience in which individuals understand and interpret musical meanings, express their own experiences, create new outcomes, and share and collaborate with others. Accordingly, this study proposes five components of cultural enjoyment competencies: appreciation, interpretation, expression, creation, and sharing and collaboration. Furthermore, the study proposes four directions for elementary music education to foster these competencies: first, developing culture-enjoyment-oriented music education that reflects students’ actual musical experiences; second, expanding musical experiences for understanding and interpreting diverse musical cultures; third, promoting expressive and creative activities using generative AI and digital technologies; and fourth, strengthening community-based sharing and collaborative activities. In conclusion, elementary music education in the AI era should build on the educational values of appreciation, expression, creation, and communication that have been developed in existing music education, while expanding educational experiences that enable students to actively experience diverse musical cultures, interpret their meanings within social and cultural contexts, creatively express themselves using AI, and collaborate with others.
