Abstract

During the COVID-19 global crisis, the resilience of individuals and organizations became an important mechanism to overcome issues triggered by the crisis. In particular, individuals' resilience plays a pivotal role in managing stress situations caused by COVID-19. For that reason, it is necessary to monitor and promote one’s resilience. Graduate students in South Korea as ambiguous status between a student and an employee, have less support from universities and societal supports, and consequently they are more likely to be economically and emotionally vulnerable under the circumstances of COVID-19. Thus, this study proposes a design intervention to improve individual resilience in graduate students in humanities and social sciences majors during COVID-19. The study surveyed graduate students to identify their level of resilience and vulnerability of individuals in humanities and social science majors, and also science and engineering majors, and explored a design intervention by converging user's requirements through interviews and prototype testing. The results of the study are significant in that specific design supports and roles are provided to assist in resilience of humanities and social sciences graduate students during COVID-19.
