패널중력모형을 이용하여 지역경제블록이 한국의 수출입에 어떠한 영향을 미치고 있는가를 분석하였다. 본 연구 결과에 따르면, 지역경제블록이 한국의 수출에 유의적인 영향을 미치지는 않는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 실증분석 결과는 지역경제블록 효과가 아직 가시화되지 않았거나, 가시화되었다하더라도 무역전환효과와 무역창출효과가 상쇄된 데 기인할 수 있다. 한편 사용되는 모형에 따라 차이는 있으나, APEC의 경우 한국 수출에 긍정적인 효과를 주는 것으로 보인다. 본 연구 결과, 두드러진 특징은 ASEAN 주요 국가에 대한 실제수출액이 예상수출액에 크게 미달되고 있다는 것이다. 또한 일본, 캐나다, 그리고 멕시코의 경우에도 한국의 이들 국가에 대한 실제수출액이 예상수출액에 크게 미달되고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 주목할 만 한 것은 EU 회원국인 프랑스, 이탈리아, 스웨던, 그리스의 경우 1980～1990년에는 실제수출액이 예상수출액보다 많았지만, 1990～1999년에는 실제수출액이 예상 수출액보다 적다는 점이다. 이러한 결과는 향후 한국의 FTA 정책 추진시 고려해야할 중요한 사항이다.
Abstract
According to this research, the regional trade blocs such as ASEAN, EU, and NAFTA do not have any effect on Korea's exports to member countries of the blocs. This result is different from previous research results showing a significant effect of the trade blocs on Korean trade. On the other hand, this empirical research shows that Korea's exports to APEC member countries increase after Korea's participation in APEC, although the result is sensitive to the model used. The result can justify the policy for Korea to participate actively in APEC trade liberalization. Another research result in this paper shows that Korea's actual exports to some ASEAN countries, some EU countries, Japan, Canada, and Mexico are less than expected in the gravity model. It means that Korea has to make an effort to expand exports to the countries through trade liberalization such as FTA between Korea and those countries.
