EU 등 경제통합과 한국교역에 대한 실증연구

본 연구는 1990년에서 2006년까지의 최근 통계자료를 이용하여 중력모형을 사용하여 경제통합의 효과가 한국무역에 어떤 영향을 미치는지 실증 분석하였다. 추정결과, 무역에 있어서 기존의 국제무역이론이 변수로 채택하지 않았던 지리적 거리와 국민소득과 국가의 크기 및 인구 등이 교역액에 중요한 영향을 미치고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 교역국과의 거리는 최근 운송과 통신수단이 발전되었지만 여전히 교역에 부정적인 영향을 미치고 있으며 국민소득과 국가의 크기는 교역에 긍정적인 영향을 미치고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 반면에 경제통합 변수를 분석한 결과 그 영향이 지역경제통합에 따라 다소 차이가 있었다. ASEAN 경제통합은 한국의 교역을 증가시키는데 긍정적인 영향을 미치고 있으며 NAFTA는 OLS분석과 GLS 분석 모두에서 한국과의 교역에 유의한 영향을 미치지 못한 것으로 나타났다. EU는 OLS분석에서는 한국과의 교역에 긍정적인 영향을 주고 있는 것으로 나타났지만 GLS분석 결과에서는 무역창출효과와 무역전환효과가 상쇄되어 큰 영향이 없는 것으로 나타났다. 한국과 미국과의 FTA 뿐만 아니라 한국과 EU의 FTA도 무역창출효과로 인해 한국의 교역액을 증가시키는데 기여할 수 있을 것이다.
Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to analyze the effects of economic integration using gravity model and to build stable ways to expand trade by examining the patterns of Korean trade. Gravity model is a theory that trade volume between two countries has positive relation to their GDP and negative relation to their distance. According to the regression results, the patterns of Korean trade fit the gravity model well. Especially, distance is still statistically significant coefficients and negative factor to trade even if the technology of transportation and communication has been advanced much. Another regression results shows that among the regional trade blocs, ASEAN is statistically significant variable and expands Korean trade. EU's effect on Korean trade is somewhat ambiguous. While by OLS estimation EU may affect the trade between Korea and EU negatively, by GLS estimation EU like NAFTA did not affect the trade between Korea and EU statistically significantly. These results mean that Korea has to make an effort to trade more with EU countries so that Korea has to build FTA with EU as well as NAFTA countries.
