국제금융위기가 한국 조선 산업의 대 EU 교역에 미치는 효과

본 연구에서는 한국과 EU의 조선산업의 국제경쟁력을 비교분석한 후 글로벌 금융위기가 한국의 대 EU 조선산업의 수출입에 미치는 효과를 실증 분석하였다. 한국과 EU의 조선산업의 수출경쟁력을 비교해 보면 한국은 무역특화지수, RCA지수 모두 2000년대 이후 높은 수출특화상태에 있다. 반면 EU의 경우에 무역특화지수로는 수입특화상태이나 RCA지수로 보면 1보다 높은 수준에 있어 비교우위상태에 있는 것으로 평가할 수 있다. 한국의 대 EU 조선산업 수출입에 미치는 효과를 체계적으로 분석하기 위해서조선 산업 4개 품목에 대한 횡단면 자료와 1995년 1/4분기부터 2011년 3/4분기까지의분기별 시계열자료로 구성된 패널자료를 이용하여 실증분석을 시도하였다. 국제금융위기가 수출에 미치는 효과에 대한 패널분석 결과를 보면 국제금융위기는 기대한 바와 같이 통계적으로 유의한 부(-)의 효과를 보이고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 국제금융위기가 수입에 미치는 효과의 분석결과에서도 국제금융위기는 통계적으로 유의한 부(-)의효과를 보이며 통계적인 유의성도 높게 나타났다. 즉 국제금융위기는 한국의 대 EU 조선산업의 수출입을 동시에 감소시키는 결과를 가져온 것으로 해석할 수 있다.
Abstract
We have analyzed the competitiveness of the Korean shipbuilding industry and estimated the effects of global financial crisis on Korea's shipbuilding trade flows with the EU. Our analysis of the trade specialization index (TSI) and the revealed comparative advantage (RCA) index demonstrates that Korea has comparative advantage in shipbuilding industry. The TSI for EU is closer to -1 indicating an import specialization. However, the RCA for EU is more than 1 indicating a comparative advantage in shipbuilding industry. We have also investigated the effects of global financial crises on Korea's shipbuilding trade flows using a panel of 67 observations (1995.1/4-2011.3/4) for the 4 sub-sectors of the industry. We have found that global financial crises has a statistically significant negative effect on Korea's shipbuilding exports and imports to the EU. It is further observed that GDP and exchange rate have positive effects on Korea's shipbuilding exports.
