Abstract
In this study, we examined the role of information sources in impacting consumer attitudes towards negative issues. Specifically, we examined how companies engaged in unethical practices affect consumer attitudes by differentiating between internal and external information sources. Our focus was on how this influences the activation of persuasion knowledge. According to the research results, when the information source is external rather than internal, the activation of persuasion knowledge was found to be lower. The impact of internal information sources on negative corporate attitudes appeared to be mediated sequentially by self-serving motivational inference and the activation of persuasion knowledge, while the impact of external information sources appeared to be mediated sequentially by perceived objectivity and the activation of persuasion knowledge. This study delves into how consumer attitudes towards corporations vary based on information sources, offering theoretical insights. Moreover, it suggests that leveraging information sources effectively can serve as a crisis response to alleviate negative attitudes towards adverse issues.
