본고는 고령화 시대 신노인상이 출현함에 따라 노인복지의 활성화와 방향 전환을 위한개신교 교회의 역할을 고찰하기 위해 수행되었다. 특히 저출산과 수명연장으로 수적인우세를 점한 노인들이 사회의 주축이 되면서 취업 노인의 비중도 지속적으로 증가하고있다. 그들은 이전 세대에 비해 소득·교육 수준이 높고, 자립심과 독립심이 강하며, 자녀들에 대한 의존도가 약화된 것으로 나타났다. 이제 노인들은 단순히 수동적인 돌봄의대상이 아니라 적극적으로 방향을 전환해서 자기 자신과 사회문제들을 돌보는 주체로서의역할이 요구되고, 교회 공동체와 교회 노인복지는 이러한 역할에 필요한 도움을 충분히제공할 수 있을 것으로 판단된다. 특히 노인들의 일과 여가생활을 분석해 본 결과 그들에게 가장 절실히 요구되는 문제는 ‘나홀로’의 극복으로, 이를 위해 신뢰할 수 있는 동반자와 자원봉사를 포함한 사회활동의 참여가 요구된다. 교회 공동체는 이 모든 것에적합할 뿐 아니라 덧붙여 교회는 기도를 통한 종교적 힐링과 관계의 강화가 가능하다는점에서 지역사회 내의 여타 노인 관련 시설이나 기관과 차별화된다. 단지 교회는 노인들에게 또 하나의 집과 같은 삶의 공간이 될 수 되도록 해야 할 것으로 이 점은 노인복지 활성화를 위한 출발점이 될 것이다.
Abstract
This study was conducted to examine the role of the protestant church in activating and changing the direction of elderly welfare as the new image of the elderly emerges in the age of aging. In particular, as the elderly, who have gained numerical superiority due to low birth rates and extended life expectancy, become the mainstay of society, the proportion of employed elderly people is also continuously increasing. Compared to previous generations, they have higher income and education levels, are more self-reliant and independent, and are less dependent on their children. Now, the elderly are not simply subject to passive care, but are required to actively change direction and take care of themselves and social problems, and it is judged that church community and church elderly welfare can provide enough help for this role. In particular, the results of analyzing the work and leisure activities of the elderly show that the most urgent problem for them is overcoming ‘being alone’, and to do this, they need a trustworthy companion and participation in social activities including volunteer work. The church community is not only suitable for all of these, but in addition, the church is differentiated from other facilities and institutions related to the elderly in the community in that it can strengthen religious healing and relationships through prayer. However, the church should be able to become another home-like living space for the elderly, which will be a starting point for revitalizing the welfare of the elderly.
