｢원명(圓明)｣은 1926년 관성교(關聖敎)에서 간행된 종교잡지로, 현재 국립중앙도서관을 비롯한 몇 개의 기관에서만 확인되는 희귀본 자료이다. 이 잡지는 관성교의 교리, 조직, 규범, 예식이 통합된 완결된 구조를 갖추어, 관성교가 근대 시기에 교리의 체계화와 교단의 제도화를 동시에 추진한 과정을 보여준다. 한글과 한문을 병기한 편집은 근대 인쇄문화의 수용과 종교 언어의 변화와 대중화를 반영하며, 신앙의 내용을 ‘경전에서 잡지로’ 확장한 근대 종교 출판의 전환점을 제시한다. ｢원명｣은 1920년대 조선의 출판문화, 종교운동, 언어정책의 변화를 포괄하는 복합 텍스트로서, 향후 한국 근대 종교문화사, 인쇄문화사, 잡지 및 대중 매체 연구를 밝히는 중요한 자료로 평가된다.
Abstract
Wŏnmyŏng (圓明) is a religious magazine published in 1926 by Gwanseonggyo (關聖敎), now preserved only in a few institutions, including the National Library of Korea. The magazine presents a structure integrating doctrine, organization, regulations, and rituals, demonstrating how Gwansonggyo simultaneously pursued the systematization of its teachings and the institutionalization of its organization. Its bilingual composition in Korean and Classical Chinese reflects the adaptation of modern print culture and the popularization of religious language, marking a turning point in modern religious publishing that expanded the medium of faith “from scripture to magazine.” As a complex text encompassing the transformations of 1920s Korean print culture, religious movements, and language policy, Wŏnmyŏng serves as a significant source for future studies on modern Korean religious culture, print history, and mass media development.
