Abstract

Background Elementary school science ‧ Mathematics textbooks are converted from the 2022 to the examination format in the format of national administration Elementary school can freely select textbooks and use it. It is expected that various publishers compete to participate in the development of textbooks, and we expect that diversification of textbooks will be done. The diversification of textbooks is important in the ability to write textbooks and planning textbooks, but there will be a difference in competitiveness based on the design of textbooks. This will gradually increase efforts to develop competitive textbooks by various publishers, and it will be a catalyst to increase the influence of textbook design. Methods In this research, we designed the scope and method of research for the purpose of deriving substantial design elements of textbooks. We focused on textbooks of elementary school science ‧ mathematics. In the process of research, [Step 1] Define content structure as grasping through the paper page of the textbook. Define the roles of stars constituting the contents of [Step 2] and derive elements of design. [Step 3] It analyzes the derived design elements and is a combination of main design elements. In that order. Result Elementary school science and mathematics textbooks consist of 8 contents (including appendix) and 13 design elements. In addition, the combination of design elements according to content structure was systemized into 20 according to the purpose of contents composition. Conclusion This study is meaningful in that it has carried out the study of design element derivation which is substantial and empirical from the study of the derivation of the existing design element. Through this study, designers' perception of the structure of textbooks enables efficient application of design guidelines, and designers can design consistently in various and complex conditions.
