교과서 편집디자인의 시지각적 개념 공유화 방안 - 2007년 개정 교육과정에 따른 초등학교 과학 교과서를 중심으로 -

Abstract

A good textbook is not just a teaching aid for class: it should be something that can make students see, feel and have fun about learning as well as cultivate their knowledge. Improving learning contents in the textbook is not enough to achieve this goal: this can only happen when we effectively establish a design system in this regard and apply nice and easy visual descriptive forms to it. This study has selected science textbooks for elementary school among the government-designated textbooks that were newly developed in 2010 following revisions in 2007 to analyze their contents by editorial design factor and conduct a comprehensive review of the current state and improvement measures. Based on these results, this study aims to come up with a more systematic approach for the development of textbook designs in the future and with ways forward for further development. The results of the analysis proved the following: textbook development in the future should be differentiated in general from that of the existing textbooks, under a broad proposition of "quality enhancement."; for this objective, visual materials in science textbooks such as photographs, illustrations and icons should have realistic and appropriate bases of analysis; in addition, in order to enhance the understanding of learning contents, textbooks should carry real-life-based subject matters and be solidly described based on the principles applicable to the texts. In conclusion, it is not advisable that the development of textbooks is delegated to the writing team only: teams in charge of design, editing and proofreading as well as the supervisory authority, the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, should establish a efficient system of cooperation so that design can be developed based on understanding, applying a form of storytelling in the process. Finally, this study proposes that textbooks in the future be developed from the perspective of users through an efficient editorial design to be easily read and understood and that learning contents be made more systematic to cultivate creativity in learners and help them effectively cope with information- and knowledge-based society.
