호탄 지역에서 집중적으로 출토되고 있는 시노－카로슈티(Sino-Kharosthi)동전은 한문(漢文)과 카로슈티문(kharosthi, 佉盧文) 두 종류의 언어로 쓰여진 명문이 있는 동전을 일컫는다. 원형으로 가운데 구멍이 없는 형태로, 중앙에는 서 있는 말이나 낙타를 도안하기도 하여 ‘호탄마전(和田馬錢)’이라고 불리워지기도 한다. 한 면에는 전서(篆書)로 “중입사수동전(重卄四銖銅錢)”을, 다른 한 면에는 가운데 말이 서 있고, 주위로 카로슈티문 명문으로 왕의 이름을 새겼다. 한구이체전은 1873년 영국탐험가 토마스 더글라스 포사이스(Thomas Douglas Forsyth, 1827 -1886)에 의해 신장 호탄에서 처음으로 발견된 이후 호탄과 인근지역에서 지속적으로 발견되었으며, 그 중에는 스타인(Stein) 탐험대가 발견한 수량이 가장 많다. 발견된 동전들은 영국박물관을 비롯하여 인도정보도서관, 러시아 국립에르미타시박물관, 파리국가도서관 등에 소장되어 있으며, 중국내에는 국가박물관과 여순박물관(旅順博物館) 등에 20여 매 정도 소장되어 있다. 시노－카로슈티동전의 연구에 대해서는 동전을 발견한 서구인들에 의해 주도되었으며, 80년대 이후에 들어와서야 중국학자들에 의해 연구가 시작되었으나 지속적으로 이루어지지는 못하다가 2000년대 이후 최근 10여년간에 걸쳐 이 동전에 대한 연구가 새롭게 이루어지고 있다. 이 글에서는 시노－카로슈티동전에 대한 논의과정과 유형분류 및 유통시기 등 편년을 중심으로 논의의 쟁점에 대해 살펴보았다. 그리고 이를 통해 실크로드상의 우전국의 위상에 대해 살펴보았다. 호탄 지역에서 집중적으로 출토되고 있는 시노－카로슈티동전은 한문(漢文)과 카로슈티문(kharosthi, 佉盧文) 두 종류의 언어로 쓰여진 명문이 있는 동전을 일컫는다. 원형으로 가운데 구멍이 없는 형태로, 중앙에는 서 있는 말이나 낙타를 도안하기도 하였다. 그리고 이를 통해 실크로드상의 우전국의 위상에 대해 살펴보았다.
Abstract
The Sino-Kharosthi coins, which have been intensively unearthed in the Hortan region, refer to coins with famous phrases written in two languages :Chinese characters and kharosthi. It is also called “Hotanmajeon 和田馬錢” because it has a circular, hole-free shape and designs a horse or camel standing in the center. On one side, “重卄四銖銅錢” is written in a dictionary, and on the other side, a horse stands in the middle, and around it, the king’s name is carved in the prestigious Karoshtimun. Since the first discovery in 1873 by British explorer Thomas Douglas Forsyth (1827-1886) in Xinjiang’s Hortan and nearby areas. It has been found, and among them, the Stein expedition has the largest number of discoveries. The coins found are housed in the British Museum, the Indian Library of Information, the Russian National Museum of Ermitage, and the Paris National Library, and about 20 pieces are housed in the National Museum and Museum of Korea in China. The research on the Sino-Kharosthi coins was led by Westerners who discovered the coins, and only after the 80s were started but not continued by Chinese scholars, but over the last 10 years since the 2000s, new research on the coins has been taking place. In this article, we looked at the issues of discussion on Sino-Kharosthi coins, including the process of discussing them, and the classification of types and distribution periods, focusing on the issues of discussion. And through this, we looked at the status of the the Khotan on the Silk Road.
