Abstract
In Christianity, embodying Christlikeness, Christiformity, is a God-given way of human flourishing. Since Jesus Christ is the “exact imprint” of God’s image (Heb 1:3; Col 1:15; 2 Cor 4:4), he is the perfect model of life for all Christians, who have also been created in the image of God. Christiformity, therefore, is the ultimate goal of the Christian life. Christiformity is a lifelong journey in understanding the meaning of Christ’s words and deeds, holding it as the highest norm of interpreting the world, and following Christ’s example of living obediently in the midst of everyday life, even in the midst of trauma. This study will argue that embodying Christlikeness in suffering is a therapeutic journey of living out the theodrama that serves as a faithful way to promote healing from trauma. The journey is, for the wounded believer, coming to see God’s comfort and compassion and experi- encing the resolution of the problems of sin, damage, and suffering. Along the way, it also promotes the development of ethicospiritual holiness, which manifests God’s glory. To support the argument, this inquiry will explore diverse aspects of Christlikeness related to the cross, which includes silence, lament, vulnerability, mortification of sin, forgiveness, compas- sion, and community.
