타문화권에서 사역을 하는 선교사들은 트라우마를 유발할 수 있는 사건이나 상황에 노출될 가능성이 상대적으로 높다. 끔찍한 재난이나 사고의 경험이 심각한 트라우마로 발전하지 않고, 외상 후 기억에서 회복되려면 자신의 고난과 자기가 속한 세계에 대한 균형 잡힌 이해가 요구된다. 이를 위해 트라우마 피해자는 적절한 고통의 신학을 형성할 수 있어야 한다. 그리스도교의 전통적인 고통의 신학의 핵심에는 하나님께서 세상의 모든 것을 다스린다는 신앙과 그리스도의 부활이 죄와 죽음으로부터 영원한 승리라는 신앙이 놓여 있다. 하지만 트라우마가 과거와 현재, 그리고 삶과 죽음이 뒤섞인 듯한 경험을 반복적으로 자아내는 만큼, 외상 후 상처가 만들어 낸 특별한 고통을 성찰하고 해석 하기 위한 신학적 자원도 추가로 필요하다. 본 논문은 셸리 램보가 성 토요일에 성부와 성자를 붙잡고 계시던 성령의 모습을 중심으로 전개했던 트라우마 신학을 소개하고자 한다. 이때 성령은 승리자나 전능자 보다는 죽음과 무의미의 순간에 연약하고 기진맥진하게 사랑을 끝까지 증언하시는 분으로 묘사된다. 이러한 성령론적 통찰을 가지고 램보는 ‘남아있음’을 트라우마 이후 제자도의 가능성으로 제시한다. 램보가 탐구한 트라우마 이론과 그리스도교 신학의 공명 가능성은 선교 현장 에서 트라우마를 직접 경험하거나 현지인의 트라우마에 노출되는 선교사들에게 고통 중에 하나님의 사랑을 증언하는 것의 의미를 재발견 하고, 깨진 세상에서 복음을 어떻게 증언할지에 관한 새로운 통찰을 제공할 수 있을 것이다.
Abstract
Missionaries engaged in cross-cultural ministry often encounter situations or events that may trigger trauma. In order both to prevent any exposure to horrific disasters from developing into post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and to aid recovery from traumatic memories, missionaries need to shape a balanced theological understanding of one’s own suffering and the reality of this world. In this regard, this paper attempts to explore Shally Rambo’s pneumatologically centered trauma theology. This focuses on the image of the Holy Spirit upholding the Father and the Son on Holy Saturday, portraying the Spirit as testifying to love in a vulnerable and hidden mode, rather than as a triumphant or omnipotent divine Spirit. This pneumatological insight results in the idea of “remaining” as a possibility for discipleship in a post-trauma situation. In short, Rambo’s theology of trauma offers a spiritual resource for missionaries who may have directly experienced trauma or indirectly suffered trauma from the local population, suggesting a new way of witnessing the gospel in this broken world.
