Abstract
This study aimed to examine research trends on daily living skills intervention for young children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and intellectual disabilities (ID), to derive implications for intervention practice and follow-up research in Korea. To this end, 8 papers published between 2000 and 2024 that met the selection criteria were analyzed, focusing on publication trends, participant characteristics, intervention goals and dependent variables, research design, and intervention strategies. The results showed an increasing trend in research over the past five years. Most of the participants were children with ASD, and there was a relative lack of research involving children with ID. Intervention goals primarily focused on practical skills such as dressing, hygiene management, and eating. However, the qualifications of interventionists, intervention fidelity, and ethical considerations were generally underreported. This study is significant in that it comprehensively reviewed existing literature to suggest practical directions and policy implications for improving the independent functioning of young children and reducing the burden on their caregivers, and it provides basic data for strengthening the validity of future intervention development and research design.
