초록
Approximately 1,000 units of the K55 self-propelled howitzer is manufactured domestically from 1985 to 1997 using the US M109A2 technology, and the armament system involved is imported from overseas as a core component of firepower. The long-term use of the armament system for 22 years has resulted in operational problems. Consequently, localization development is necessary to resolve quality issues, address uncertainty in military logistics support, and reduce costs. Additionally, domestic skilled design and maintenance capabilities should be enhanced. In this study, we identify the development requirements through a material and performance analysis of each component of the armament system for the K55A1 self-propelled howitzer, which was excluded from the performance improvement in 2011. Additionally, we establish improved component designs to solve problems in the field, such as fall backs. We plan to secure performance equivalent to that of imported products by identifying test items and evaluation methods, based on reference to the K55A1 self-propelled howitzer and gun-barrel assembly defense standards established in a performance-improvement project and US defense standards. Our results show that in addition to each component satisfying its functional and performance standards, the barrel life improved as compared with that of previous models. We expect the findings of this study to resolve chronic field problems and ensure a part-supply system with superior quality and timely procurement.
