Abstract
This study explores the influence of the Notre Dame Global Adaptation Initiative (ND-GAIN) index—an indicator of a country's readiness and vulnerability to climate change—on the grain export volumes of major global exporters. Recent global crises, including COVID-19, climate change, energy inflation, and conflicts, have significantly disrupted the grain export market and threatened global food security. Notably, climate change has resulted in decreased agricultural production and export restrictions in key exporting nations. Employing panel regression analysis, this research examines the relationship between climate adaptation capacity and grain exports, utilizing grain export data from FAO-AMIS and ND-GAIN indices spanning from 1995 to 2022. The empirical findings yield policy implications aimed at ensuring a stable and resilient grain supply chain. The analysis reveals that, in terms of climate vulnerability, both climate exposure and climate sensitivity negatively affect grain exports, while social factors associated with climate preparedness have a positive impact on grain export volumes.
