본 연구는 도덕적 딜레마의 개념적 구조를 검토하고, 이에 대응하기 위한 다양한 윤리적 의사결정 모델을 분석하는 데 목적을 둔다. 먼저 Ⅱ장에서는 도덕적 딜레마의 정의와 성립 요건을 정리하고, 이를 토대로 딜레마의 구조적 성격을 체계화하였다. Ⅲ장에서는 윤리학계에서 제기되어 온 도덕적 딜레마의 존재 긍정론과 부정론을 비판적으로 검토하였다. 이어 Ⅳ장과 Ⅴ장에서는 포터(Potter)의 포터박스, 로웰버그와 돌고프(Loewenberg & Dolgoff)의 윤리적 의사결정 모델, 데이(Day)의 SAD 모델, 복(Bok)의 3단계 모델 등 주요 윤리적 의사결정 모델을 분석하여 각 모델의 특징과 상호 비교를 통해 공통성과 차이점을 도출하였다. 분석 결과, 이들 모델은 사실의 인식, 가치의 명료화, 윤리 원칙의 적용, 판단의 정당화라는 공통된 절차적 논리를 공유하며, 도덕 판단의 합리성과 공공성을 확보하려는 지향점을 함께 갖고 있었다. 본 연구는 이러한 윤리적 의사결정 모델을 도덕적 딜레마 상황에서 도덕 판단을 공적으로 정당화하는 절차로 해석함으로써, 향후 딜레마 해결을 위한 새로운 윤리적 의사결정 모델을 제안하는 데 필요한 기초적 논의를 제공한다.
Abstract
This study aims to examine the conceptual structure of moral dilemmas and to analyze various ethical decision-making models developed to address such dilemmas in practice. Chapter II outlines the definition and constitutive conditions of moral dilemmas and systematizes their structural characteristics. Chapter III critically reviews the debates within moral philosophy regarding the existence or non-existence of genuine moral dilemmas. Chapters IV and V then analyze major ethical decision-making models—including Potter’s Potter Box, Loewenberg and Dolgoff’s Ethical Decision-Making Model, Day’s SAD Model, and Bok’s Three-Step Model—highlighting their distinctive features as well as their commonalities and differences. The analysis reveals that these models share a common procedural logic involving the identification of relevant facts, clarification of values, application of ethical principles, and justification of moral judgments. All models also exhibit a shared commitment to securing rationality and public accountability in moral decision-making. By interpreting ethical decision-making models as procedures for publicly justifying moral judgments in the face of moral dilemmas, this study provides a foundational contribution for the development of new models aimed at better resolving moral dilemmas in the future.
