사회적 선호는 경제 주체의 이기심 공리만으로 설명할 수 없는 실험실의연구 결과를 설명하기 위해 등장한 개념이다. 하지만 사회적 선호에 대해 장기적인 이익 추구나 평판을 고려한 선택이라는 비판이 제기되고 있다. 흔히이기심 공리의 기원으로 알려져 있는 아담 스미스는 도덕감정론에서 인간의 이타적인 면까지 폭넓게 탐구하였다. 본 논문은 사회적 선호와 도덕감정론의 관계를 확인함으로써 사회적 선호를 바탕으로 한 선택이 이기심 공리로 환원할 수 없는 윤리적 근원을 갖고 있음을 보이고자 하였다. 그리고이러한 관점에 설 경우 경제학 분석의 대상은 고립된 개인의 선택을 넘어서타인과 공동체를 고려하는 인간의 선택까지 넓혀질 필요가 있게 된다.
Abstract
Social preference is a concept that emerged to explain laboratory research results that cannot be explained only by the selfishness axiom of economic agents. However, criticism has been raised as a choice considering longterm interests or reputation for social preference. Adam Smith, commonly known as the origin of the selfishness axiom, explored a wide range of human altruistic aspects in The Theory of Moral Sentiments. This paper attempted to show that the choice based on social preference has an ethical source that cannot be reduced to the selfishness axiom by confirming the relationship between social preference and The Theory of Moral Sentiments. And in this view, the object of economic analysis needs to be extended beyond the choice of an isolated individual to a human choice that considers others and communities.
