디지털 인문학은 이른바 4차 산업혁명 시대라고 하는 급격한 변화의 시기에대한 인문학의 대응과 진화의 방향을 함축하고 있다. 그러나 이 변화는 많은 인접 분야와의 융합을 거치며 생겨난 이질성으로 인해 인문학 연구자들에게는 지적인 부담으로 다가오기도 한다. 본고에서는 현 시점에서 인문학의 융합분야들을 살펴보고 디지털 인문학 프로젝트를 성공적으로 이끄는 협업의 제 방안을정리해본다. 인접 분야들 중에서는 특히 코퍼스와 자연어처리를 아우르는 전산언어학과 기계학습 분야가 인문학과 융합한 프로젝트 사례를 살펴보고, 이들 분야가 보조적 역할을 넘어서 인문학 연구의 영역과 연구체계의 근본적 재구조화를 촉진할 가능성을 전망해본다.
Abstract
Digital humanities (DH) is a response and an evolutionary reaction from studies on Humanities to the recent change, namely the fourth industrial revolution. The change, however, comes with an intellectual challenge, a fusion with numerous neighboring fields of studies that have not been considered Humanities proper traditionally. Thus, at this point, it is apt to review those areas and expert knowledge that they offer and evaluate them for relevance to Humanities. This paper is an overview of key concepts in language-related fields, i.e., natural language processing and machine learning. It sketches how these technical sub fields emerge in a number of DH projects and proposes that the role of these neighboring areas is beyond simply being facilitative and may serve as a driving factor toward a fundamental restructuring in research scope, methodology, and framework in Humanities research.
