근현대 압구정 마을의 변화 양상과 향우회의 활동

강남구 압구정동은 서울의 도시개발사뿐만 아니라 한국 자본주의 성장의 가장 핵심적인 지역으로 알려져 왔다. 그러나 이러한 변화가 1970년대 초 개발된 이래 불과 20년이라는 시간동안 이루어진 이른바 압축적 근대의 생산물이라는 점은 도시 이전 농촌이자 한 마을에 불과했던 압구정동의 역사를 망각하는 과정이기도 했다. 마을 전체를 일시에 소개시키고 대 단지 아파트 단지가 만들어졌던 역사는 단순히 공간적 변용의 의미를 넘어선다. 그리고 그곳 에 살아갔던 사람들의 역사는 근대화의 주변부로 밀려나 발견되지 못했던 역사라고 할 수 있 을 것이다. 그런 점에서 개발의 과정에서 소멸되어간 주민들의 기억은 서울을 개발과 성장의 역사만이 아닌 성찰과 다성적인 역사적 공간으로서 서울을 이해하는 데 반드시 필요한 부분 이다. 본 논문은 1900년대 이후 기록자료와 20세기 중반 이후 주민들의 기억을 통해 압구정 마을의 역사를 재구성하고 한다. 특히, 식민지 말기 주민들의 기억을 통해 압구정리는 선명 한 공간적 구분과 장소적 세부들을 재구성할 수 있었다. 일본군 주둔군과 6.25전쟁의 참화 를 거쳐 배가 유명한 마을을 되기까지의 역사는 모두 주민들의 기억을 통해 쓰여질 수 있었 다. 그리고 향우회의 건설을 통해 도시개발의 물결 속에서 주변으로 흩어진 주민들을 다시 모으고 한 마을에 살았던 역사를 서로 공유하는 과정 역시 압구정 마을의 역사를 써 나가게 되는 중요한 일부라고 할 수 있을 것이다. 이와 같은 압구정 마을의 역사는 그동안 쓰여지지 않는 비공식 역사의 영역으로 원주민의 기억을 통해 설명될 수 있는 역사이다.
Abstract
Apgujeong-dong in Gangnam-gu has been significantly recognized not only as an urban development history in Seoul, but also as a key area for Korean capitalistic growth. However, this perspective can be said as a product of compressed modernization made only for 20 years since its development in the early 1970s and also as a process of forgetting the history of Apgujeong- dong, which was only a rural village. In this sense, the memory of the people who have been lost in the process of urban development will be a necessary for understanding the contemporary history of Seoul as a reflective and historical space with multi-voices rather than a history of development and growth. This paper focuses on the history of Apgujeong village through the records of the 1900s and the memories of residents since the middle of the 20th century. In addition, the process of sharing the history of the people scattered around in the wave of urban development through the activities of the hometown alumni after the development is also an important part of writing the history of Apgujeong village. Such a history of Apgujung village can be said as a history of informal history which can not be written yet and can be explained through the memory of aboriginal people before development.
