Abstract

This paper aims to apply the theory of cognitive poetics to specific folktale to elucidate the process of reading through the principles of cognitive processes. The conceptual metaphor of the folktale has been confirmed for the Magpie Repay a Favor folktale that has been handed down nationwide. In addition, it is possible to read the ethical value judgments of the folktale community, which places emphasis on “what is received must be returned.” An attempt to analyze a discourse as a theory of cognitive poetics will help systematically describe a concatenated circle that synchronizing the internal language of the text and thinking of external experience.
