서사 은유의 문화적 인지 공정: 『혼불』을 중심으로

서사적 은유는 ‘체험―해석―표현’의 해석학적 순환 공정을 통해 이야기의 구성을 다양하게 변주하고 다채로운 담론을 창출하는 원동력이다. 세계 이해의 방편으로서 삶에 편재한 은유적 인지 공정이 서사 텍스트의 창출에 관여되는 과정에서 효력을 크게 발휘한다. 은유적 이미지 도식이 서사의 모티프로서 채용되고, 은유적 행동역학 도식이 서사 진전의 동력으로 작용하며, 은유적 위상 도식이 서사공간 횡단의 구심을 이루면서, 은유는 서사적 인지소로서 기능한다. 문화적 약호 수행을 구심으로 진행되는 서사적 인지 공정에 인지소로서 대입된 은유는 삶의 경험과 사유를 해석하여 의미망을 편성하고 이를 표현한 텍스트를 통해 삶의 장에 환류하여 문화적 적층의 계기를 이룬다. 이는 세계 이해의 지평을 확장하고 진전된 삶의 영역을 지으려는 창발적 모색에 수렴된다. 이러한 모색의 한 결정(結晶)으로 『혼불』을 상정하고, 그 서사적 인지소를 이루는 은유의 양상을 분석한 바를 앞세워, 서사적 은유의 문화적 인지 공정에 관한 입론을 제안한다. 『혼불』은 삶의 방편으로서 문화장에 편재한 은유와 문학적 수사 층위의 은유 사이를 넘나들며 창발적 사유를 돕는 서사적 은유를 구심으로 인지 공정이 구동된다. 그 과정에서 문화적 수행의 여러 영역을 횡단하는 서사의 가치가 드러난다. 이는 곧 서사가 문화적 동력원이면서 문화적 소여의 여러 국면에 놓인 역학 구도를 이해하는 거점이라는 생각을 명변할 수 있는 근거가 되는 것이어서, 『혼불』을 통해 산출되는 문화 가치가 상당하다고 할 수 있다.
Abstract
Narrative metaphor is the prime mover that creates the various narrative plots and discourses through the hermeneutical circulation of ‘experience―interpretation―expression’. The processing of metaphorical cognition, pervasive in the living fields as a way of world understanding, is so efficient for the process of creation of narrative texts. Narrative metaphor could function as a narrative cog. The metaphoric image schema is employed as a narrative motif, the metaphoric motor schema is operated as a driving force of narrative progress, and the metaphoric phase schema is constituted as a strong point of crossing of narrative spaces. Narrative metaphors as the cogs of narrative cognition processing are moments of cultural accumulations through the interpretation and flow-back of various living ways and sense-networks. Those would be converged on the emergent gropes for expanding horizon of world-views and domain of living experiences. Honbul is a definitive narrative text that shows the lucid aspects of metaphors as narrative cogs. The cognitive processing of Honbul is operated by the metaphors those promote the emergent thinking derived from cultural performative fields. In the processing, multi-layered cultural values could be come to light. Honbul is an exemplary text for proving the cultural cognitive processing of narrative metaphor.
