Abstract
This study focuses on teachers' aesthetic needs as a key mechanism determining the students’ quality of learning experiences and aims to empirically investigate the structural relationship between these needs and teaching perspectives within the context of music education. To this end, data were collected through an online survey administered to 98 elementary and secondary teachers in Korea in March 2025 and analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The results confirmed that teachers' aesthetic needs are a critical psychological factor exerting a sig nificant positive influence on all five teaching perspectives: Transmission, Apprenticeship, Developmental, Nurturing, and Social Reform. This suggests that aesthetic needs extend beyond mere personal preferences to significantly influence professional teaching beliefs. Notably, the influence was strongest on the Apprenticeship perspective, reflecting the unique nature of music education. This indicates that teachers with a strong desire for aesthetic experiences prefer teaching methods that emphasize direct demonstration and modeling. Furthermore, while the influence on the Transmission perspective was relatively lower compared to oth ers, a significant positive relationship was still confirmed. This implies that teachers with high aesthetic needs do not exclude the importance of knowledge transmission but comprehensively expand their peda gogical horizons to include experience- and relationship-centered perspectives, such as Developmental, Nurturing, and Social Reform. Based on these findings, this study suggests the necessity of establishing a practical and continuous edu cational support system to satisfy and cultivate teachers' aesthetic needs. Such support would enable teach ers to implement diverse teaching perspectives in a balanced manner, adapted to various educational con texts and situations. Future research is recommended to include qualitative and field-based studies to ex plore in depth how aesthetic needs and teaching perspectives interact in actual music classroom settings.
