‘나를 만지지 마라’: 박물관과 만짐의 교육철학

본 연구는 박물관의 전시기법에 내포된 교육적 의미를 검토한다. 관련하여 본고는 근대 박물관의 전시기법에 내포된 정치성과 인식론적 담론을 분석한다. 그 결과 박물관은 근대 인식론이 물질적으로 구현된 곳이자 동시에 진리의 이중성이 발현되는 곳으로 해석되었다. 이때 진리의 이중성이란 규정된 듯 보이나 규정되지 않고 발화하는 진리의 성격을 지칭한다. 한편, 장-뤽 낭시의 『나를 만지지 마라』(Nancy, 2015)는 기존의 근대 박물관의 전시문법으로 표현되는 ‘만지지 마시오’ 문구를 재해석해 보는 계기를 마련한다. 관련하여 낭시는 성경의「요한복음」에 등장하는 부활의 예수가 막달라 마리아와 만나는 장면에서 마리아의 접촉을 금지시키는 장면에 주목한다. 이 장면에서 낭시는 ‘만지지 않음의 만짐’으로 경험되는 진리를 토대로 인간 삶의 의미를 제고한다. 특히 낭시의 논의에서 진리의 이중성은 진리에 닿고자 하나 끝내 닿을 수 없는 몸과 사유의 한계를 드러낸다. 본 연구는 박물관의 ‘만지지 마시오’ 전시 문법은 바로 ‘만지지 않음의 만짐’으로 요약되는 관람객의 참여로 해석한다. 이를 토대로 본고는 박물관에 방문하는 경험은 우리가 사물과 타자를 인식하고 대하는 윤리적 태도를 제고하는 교육적 경험과 관련됨을 제시한다.

Abstract

Based on Noli Me Tangere: On the Raising of the Body by Jean-Luc Nancy(2015), this paper discusses the educational implications of touching in a museum. To do so, it first examines the political and epistemological discourses incarnated in the modern museum. In specific, it explores the relation between the development of museum institutions and the nature of modern epistemology in terms of subject-object dichotomy in a form of seeing. This paper argues that despite the certainty that the modern epistemology rigorously pursues and its museographical attempts to realise it, there are meanings that cannot be grasped in the grammar of the modern epistemology. In relation to this, the paper turns the focus on Nancy’s discussion on the biblical scene in which the resurrected Jesus greets Mary Magdalene but commands her not to touch his body. Nancy interprets this religious scene into non-religious meanings which imply the ontological politics that is found in touching of not touching. This paper extends the ontological politics to be experienced in museums with the expression of ‘do not touch’ as an educational lesson to understand otherness of the others through bodily experiences as a way of being-with.
