근거이론을 활용한 고등학교 사회과 주제 중심 통합 교수-학습 자료 개발 방안

우리나라 사회과 교육과정에서 통합 교육과정을 지향하게 된 것은 세계화, 정보화 시대의 불확실성에 대비한 통합적 사고력과 의사결정능력의 필요성이 부각되면서부터이다. 또한 사회과 교육과정의 목표는 학문적 지식의 축적이 아니라 민주시민의 자질 육성이라는 점에서 일관성을 유지해왔다. 이러한 교육목표는 분과형 사회과 교육과정의 운영만으로는 실현되기 어렵다. 따라서 분과와 통합의 적절한 조화와 균형적 시각이 필요하며 사회과 통합 교육과정 운영은 지속되어야 한다. 고등학교 사회과는 6차 교육과정부터 현재까지 통합 교육과정을 지향하고 있으나 각 학문 영역의 내용을 단원을 달리하여 단권화한 것에 불과하여 실질적으로는 분과형태를 유지하고 있다는 문제가 있다. 이에 본 연구는 사회과의 실질적 통합 가능성을 제고하기 위해 주제 중심 통합 교육과정 운영을 위한 교육과정 재구성을 제언하고, 질적 연구 방법론의 하나인 근거이론을 활용하여 현재 고등학교에서 운영되고 있는 일반사회, 역사, 지리 교육과정에서 통합적 사고력을 신장할 수 있는 하나의 주제를 발췌하여, 단원을 재구성하고, 교수-학습 자료를 구성하는 과정을 제시하였다. 개방코딩을 통하여 교과서 자료를 범주화하여 ‘도시의 형성’이라는 주제를 추출하고 축 코딩을 통하여 추출된 주제에 대한 교수-학습 자료 개발의 원리를, 선택코딩을 통해 교수-학습 자료를 통해 학생들이 성취하게 될 학습결과를 도출하였다.
Abstract
Social studies curriculum began to focus on integrated curriculum due to the need of comprehensive decision-making, integrated thinking and awareness in a globalized world. The objective of social studies curriculum is not the accumulation of academic knowledge, but the development of qualities of a democratic citizen. Such an educational objective cannot be realized in a divided social studies curriculum. Proper harmony and balanced perspective of divisions are required and such integrated operation must be maintained. High school social studies implemented the integrated curriculum from the 6th curriculum to the present. However, it is problematic to keep the divided system because it only unified the academic parts. Thus, this study suggests a teaching and learning development plan for social studies’ integrated curriculum based on the grounded theory analysis.
