Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine technical adequacy of a web-based reading fluency assessment in order to promote its usability in schools. For this aim, <Study 1> and <Study 2> were conducted sequentially. The purpose of <Study 1> was to examine reliability and validity of a paper-and-pencil reading fluency assessment which will be reflected to a web-based system. Results showed that alternate form reliability was .88 to .95 and concurrent validity was .85 to .92 for 180 elementary school students in grades 1 to 3. The purpose of <Study 2> was to examine reliability and validity of a web-based reading fluency assessment. Results showed that alternate form reliability was .82-.88 and concurrent validity was .85 to .92 for 87 4th grade elementary school students. In sum, findings from this study appeared the adequate technical characteristics of the web-based reading fluency assessment in terms of reliability and validity, indicating the positive potential of the assessment to be used as a screening test in schools. Study limitations and suggestions for future research were discussed.
