태권도 정신으로서 ‘세상을 이롭게 한다’란 홍익인간 이념- 수용론과 비판론을 중심으로 -

초록

목적: 이 논문의 목적은 태권도 정신으로서 홍익인간에 대해 긍정적 이해와 이론적 기반을 강화함으로써 홍익인간이 보편타당한 태권도 정신으로 정착하도록 일조하는 것이다. 방법: 연구 방법은 철학적 분석이 채택되었다. 세부적 연구 문제는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 홍익인간 이념은 어떤 내용이며 교육 영역과 사회 분야에서 어떻게 활용되는가. 둘째, 태권도 정신으로서 홍익인간은 언제, 어떠한 과정으로 도입되었는가. 셋째, 태권도 정신으로서 홍익인간에 대한 찬반양론은 어떠한 쟁점을 갖는가이다. 결과: 첫째, 홍익인간은 ‘공동체를 생각하고 남을 배려하며 나눔과 봉사를 실천하는 사람’을 양성하는 한국 고유사상이고 그 교육적 효용성과 더불어 정치, 경제, 산업, 문화 등 사회 전반적인 영역까지 확산되고 있다. 둘째, 태권도 정신과 관련해서 홍익인간은 1985년에 최초로 거론되어 대한태권도협회와 국기원 연구과제나 지도자 연수교재에서 부분적으로 다루어졌다가 2021년 국기원 『태권도 교본』에 태권도 정신으로 등재되었다. 셋째, 태권도가 추구해야 할 이념으로서 홍익인간이 결점보다 장점이 많아 국기원 태권도 정신으로 채택되었다. 홍익인간은 태권도의 본산지인 한국의 고유사상일 뿐만 아니라 태권도의 교육적 가치를 제고하는 동력이 되기 때문이다. 결론: 홍익인간 이념은 교육적 가치를 지닐 뿐만 아니라 사회 여러 영역에서 다양하게 활용될 수 있다는 점에서, 우리는 이것을 태권도 정신의 한 축으로 적극 수용할 필요가 있다.

Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to help Hongik-Ingan settle into a universally valid Taekwondo spirit by strengthening a positive understanding and theoretical basis for Hongik-Ingan as a Taekwondo spirit. Method: Philosophical analysis was adopted as the research method. The detailed research questions are as follows. First, what is the Hongik-Ingan ideology and how it is used in education and social fields? second, when and how Hongik-Ingan was introduced as a Taekwondo spirit? and third, what issues do the pros and cons of Hongik-Ingan as a Taekwondo spirit have? Results: First, Hongik-Ingan is a unique Korean idea that fosters “people who think about the community, care for others, and practice sharing and service,” and its educational effectiveness is spreading to the overall areas of society such as politics, economy, industry, and culture. Second, regarding the spirit of Taekwondo, Hongik-Ingan was first mentioned in 1985 and was partially covered in the research project of the Korea Taekwondo Association and Kukkiwon, and was listed as the spirit of Taekwondo in name and reality in the 2021 Kukkiwon Taekwondo textbook. Third, as a Taekwondo spirit, advantages were emphasized rather than defects for Hongik-Ingan, and it was adopted as the Taekwondo spirit of Kukkiwon. Conclusion: In that the ideology of Hongik-ingan has educational value and can be used in various areas of society, Taekwondo people need to actively accept this as an axis of the Taekwondo spirit.
